Chelsea are preparing for a huge summer overhaul ahead of Xabi Alonso’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, with several first-team players now facing uncertain futures after a disappointing 2025/26 campaign.
The Blues endured another frustrating season filled with inconsistency, injuries and underwhelming performances, leaving the club desperate to reset before Alonso officially takes charge on July 1.
The former Real Madrid boss has already made his ambitions clear after agreeing to a four-year deal with Chelsea.
“We want to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level and fighting for trophies,” Alonso said after his appointment.
Chelsea Preparing for Major Summer Clearout
Before new signings arrive, Chelsea are expected to focus on reducing the size of the squad and moving on players who no longer fit the club’s long-term project.
Reports suggest as many as 11 players could leave Stamford Bridge this summer as the club looks to raise funds, improve squad balance and give Alonso a cleaner foundation to work with.
Several expensive signings have struggled to justify their transfer fees in recent seasons, while others simply need regular playing time elsewhere.
Defenders Facing Uncertain Futures
One of the biggest talking points surrounds Wesley Fofana. Despite flashes of quality after returning from injury, the French defender failed to fully convince during the season and continued to struggle with consistency and availability.

Benoit Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo are also reportedly among the players who could be moved on as Chelsea look to reshape their defensive options around Levi Colwill and younger talents coming through the squad.
Malo Gusto’s future has also surprisingly come under question after an inconsistent campaign following the departure of Enzo Maresca.
Attackers Could Also Be Sacrificed
Chelsea may also make major decisions in attack.
Alejandro Garnacho, who joined from Manchester United last summer, has reportedly failed to fully impress despite showing flashes of potential in the final third.

Liam Delap is another player whose future remains uncertain after struggling during his debut season at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are believed to be open to offers if the right opportunity arrives.
Young striker Marc Guiu could also leave on loan again in search of more regular minutes.
Goalkeeper Situation Still Unclear
Chelsea’s goalkeeping department continues to raise concerns heading into next season.
Filip Jorgensen, signed from Villarreal in 2024, has struggled to establish himself as a reliable long-term option and could leave either permanently or on loan this summer.
Meanwhile, doubts still remain over whether Robert Sánchez is truly the long-term No.1 Alonso wants for his new project.
A Huge Summer Ahead for Chelsea
- Chelsea supporters are expecting one of the club’s busiest transfer windows in recent years as Alonso begins rebuilding the squad in his image.
The next few weeks could define the direction of the BlueCo project, with major exits, new arrivals and tactical changes all expected before the start of the 2026/27 season.
One thing is clear: Chelsea are preparing for a fresh start under Xabi Alonso.
